Vegetable Spring Rolls
Marie and I have been on a kick to find the perfect pot stickers and spring rolls. We have been perusing restaurants here in Santa Fe, including ones that specialize in dim sum. None of the spring rolls and pot stickers we found were raw of course, but there were tons that are vegan or at the very least, vegetarian. Some were delicious, and this is no slight to any of them, but I personally like the flavor of these much, much better. Obviously the texture of rice paper is a far cry from a wonton wrapper. These are not a handheld goodie; knife and fork it. Now if you…

Watermelon Sushi Rolls
As some of you may know we have a couple of watermelon recipes here on the site. Dehydrated, watermelon takes on a completely different texture. Somewhat reminiscent of raw tuna, it lends itself to the perfect substitute for raw fish. I made sashimi Watermelon Sashimi & Forbidden Rice and regularly make poke bowls, but this is the first time I attempted to make sushi rolls. I’m not going to lie, this is not the easiest thing to do. Not that making sushi rolls are hard; they aren’t. The difficulty lies in using the raw Forbidden Rice and keeping it in the nori wrapper. Thai Coconut Soup
This is the soup I’ve been wanting to make. Ridiculously quick and easy, this soup will warm you up on a cold day. I made this Thai Coconut Soup in the dehydrator, but as Marie informed me, you can heat it on the stove as long as you check the temperature while heating to keep it raw. This is one of my favorite soups and I have to apologize for the photo, it sucks. But it shouldn’t be a reflection on the delicious flavor of this soup. I was hungry and too impatient to keep taking photos when all I wanted to do was eat. I warned Marie that I…
Not Your Mothers Pop Tarts
I was hardly ever allowed to have pop tarts as a girl. That was the one food arena where, all of a sudden, my mother drew the line. And it’s not because of all the icing and sprinkles on what was supposed to be a breakfast treat. Because she was all about coffee cake and strudel and cinnamon buns – as long as she made them. And she was. literally, baking round the clock. Homemade was healthiest as far as she was concerned. Even if it was filled with sugar, you couldn’t convince her otherwise. I was a ‘growing girl’ in desperate need of ‘sustenance’ and it was her mission…
